Collective Engineering proudly served as the building services engineer for the expansion of the Blackburn Public Surgical Centre, a vital project for Eastern Health. Our deep expertise in the healthcare sector enabled us to navigate the unique challenges of expanding an operational hospital while maintaining the highest standards of safety and efficiency.
To accelerate delivery, the project was strategically managed in three separable portions, with concurrent design and construction phases. The use of prefabricated modules, craned onto a custom-designed gantry, is a testament to the innovative solutions required for a project of this scale.
Our work included a full theatre fit-out, the creation of a new perioperative suite, CSSD, and pharmacy, as well as significant infrastructure upgrades. We designed a new central thermal plant to cater to the hospital’s long-term needs and relocated and upgraded the medical oxygen system.
The plant replacement itself required meticulous planning and staging to fit within the constraints of the existing roof-level plant room, a challenge we solved by working closely with the Eastern Health Facilities team.
