Epworth Geelong Day Oncology Unit
1 Epworth Place, Waurn Ponds, VIC
Collective Engineering was engaged to provide multidisciplinary building services engineering, spanning mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and fire protection design, for the significant redevelopment of the Epworth Geelong Day Oncology Unit.
Delivered to support the region’s growing population, the expansion effectively doubles the facility’s treatment capacity from 10 to 20 chemotherapy chairs, adds two treatment beds, and establishes modernised clinical and support spaces.
The upgraded unit allows thousands of local patients to access critical cancer care closer to home, without travelling to Melbourne.
Engineering Solution + Delivery
Because the works took place within a fully operational healthcare facility, our primary challenge was staging and integrating complex service upgrades without disrupting ongoing clinical care, staff, or patients.
Our team delivered a meticulously coordinated, multidisciplinary design that seamlessly integrated with the hospital’s existing infrastructure. Key focus areas included:
- Live-Environment Staging: Planning precise service cut-overs across mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic networks with zero downtime to critical live hospital functions.
- Patient-Centric Indoor Climate + Power: Designing tailored HVAC (mechanical) systems for precise temperature and air-quality control, alongside resilient electrical distribution to support advanced medical equipment and patient comfort.
- Specialised Hydraulics + Safety Systems: Integrating dedicated hydraulic services for clinical spaces and robust fire protection systems tailored to the complex hospital layout.
By combining rigorous technical coordination with a practical approach to live-site constraints, Collective Engineering delivered a quiet, resilient, and human-centred healthcare environment that will serve the Geelong community for years to come.
